Tempo Changer changes the speed of a song or recording while keeping its key: voices still sound natural and instruments stay in tune. When you upload the file its BPM is detected, so you can work in percentage or directly in beats per minute. Very handy for practicing an instrument, dancing or studying languages.

How it works, in 3 steps

Which speed to use
50%
Half speed. For working out very fast passages note by note or transcribing by ear.
75%
The classic practice speed: slow enough to follow everything without losing the groove.
90–95%
A little breathing room for pieces you can almost play at tempo.
110–125%
Practicing above the original tempo makes the real speed feel comfortable afterwards.
150–200%
To skim long recordings or make sped-up versions of a track.
Percentage and BPM
Two ways of setting the same thing. A 100 BPM track at 80% becomes 80 BPM; at 150%, 150 BPM.
Tips for better results
- Start at a speed where you can play everything cleanly and go up 5 or 10 points at a time.
- If the detected BPM is double or half the real one, fix it with the ×2 and ÷2 buttons.
- With speech, ambient music or pieces without a steady beat, the BPM may not detect well: work with the percentage only.
- The better the source file, the cleaner the result at extreme speeds.
Frequently asked questions
Does the pitch change when I speed up or slow down?
No. The audio is stretched or compressed in time without touching the pitch, so the song stays in the same key and voices sound neither high nor low.
How much can I change the speed?
From 50%, half speed, to 200%, double. There are presets for 50, 75 and 125% and a custom setting for anything in between.
Does the file length change?
Yes. Slowing down makes it longer and speeding up makes it shorter: a 4-minute song lasts 8 at 50% and 2 at 200%.
Can I set an exact BPM?
Yes. Once the track's BPM is detected you can set a target BPM and the percentage is worked out automatically.
How is it different from Pitch Shifter?
