How the voice challenge works
1. Record
Say your name, a phrase or a bit of a song into the microphone.
2. Hear it backwards
The tool reverses your recording so you can study those strange sounds as many times as you like.
3. Imitate it
Record your attempt at reproducing the reversed sounds as faithfully as you can.
4. The reveal
Your attempt is reversed and, if you nailed it, you hear your original phrase with an eerie twist.
Tips for better results
- For the challenge, start with short two- or three-syllable words: a long name backwards is a tongue twister.
- Listen to the reversed version several times before recording your attempt, and focus on the vowels.
- If you're hunting for hidden details in a song, lower the speed to 0.25× and use headphones.
- Download as WAV if you'll keep editing the sound; MP3 is handier for sharing.
Frequently asked questions
How does the say-your-name-backwards challenge work?
Go to «Voice challenge», record your name and play it reversed. Practice those sounds, record your imitation and the tool flips it: if you do it well, you'll hear your name almost as you first said it.
Does reversing audio reduce quality?
No. Only the order of the samples changes. If you download as WAV or FLAC, the quality is exactly the same; MP3 and OGG add light compression.
What is the speed control for?
It lets you hear and download the reversed version from 0.25× to 2×. At slow speed it's easier to make out syllables or supposed hidden messages.
Can I reverse my voice without a file?
Yes. In challenge mode you record directly with the microphone and hear your voice backwards instantly.
What is backmasking?
The technique of recording sounds or phrases meant to be understood when a record is played backwards. Some artists used it on purpose; in other cases it's just our brain finding words where there are none.
