It depends on your device: with a WebGPU-compatible graphics chip it's much faster. Approximate times for a 3-minute song:
- Computer with a compatible graphics chip (WebGPU: Chrome, Edge)
- about 3 min with integrated graphics; less with a dedicated GPU
- Computer without WebGPU (Firefox or unsupported graphics)
- about 9 min
- Safari or another browser using a single core
- about 20–25 min
- Phone or tablet
- may not work: the model needs more memory than many phones, especially iPhone and iPad, allow a tab
- The first time, the model downloads (about 180 MB); after that it stays saved in your browser.
- Everything runs on your device: if you switch tabs or your device goes to sleep, the browser may pause or close the tab and you would have to start over.
About Stem Splitter
Stem Splitter separates a finished mix into its four main building blocks, known in production as stems: vocals, drums, bass and other instruments. It runs Demucs, Meta's separation model, inside your browser. When it's done you get a mixer to hear any combination, with solo, mute and volume per track, and you can download each stem, your own mix or all four tracks in a ZIP.

The 4 stems
Vocals
Lead and backing vocals with no instruments: the acapella for remixes and samples.
Drums
Kick, snare, cymbals and the rest of the percussion. Usually the track that separates most cleanly.
Bass
Electric bass, bass synths and sub-bass: everything holding up the low end of the song.
Other
Guitars, keys, strings and everything else. Since it groups so much, how clean it is depends more on the mix.
Tips for better results
- Produces four separate files. Requires substantial memory; start with a short clip.
- The better the source file, the cleaner the stems: WAV, FLAC or a high-quality MP3.
- Pop, rock and hip-hop separate very well; live recordings or jazz with piano and guitar in the same range, less so.
- Download WAV if you'll work on the stems in a DAW and MP3 if you just want to listen.
- If you only need part of the song, trim it first with Audio Trimmer: it'll be much faster.

What is a stem?
Each of the tracks, grouped by instrument type, that make up a mix. Here you get four: vocals, drums, bass and other instruments.
How is it different from Vocal Remover?
Vocal Remover only separates the voice from the rest. Stem Splitter also splits the backing into drums, bass and other instruments, giving you four independent tracks.
How long does it take?
A 3-minute song takes about 3 minutes on a computer with WebGPU-compatible graphics and about 9 without. Below the panel you'll see the estimate for your device.
Can I download all four stems at once?
Yes. Choose WAV, MP3, FLAC or OGG and download the ZIP: you'll get all four tracks in a single file.
Does it separate guitar and piano too?
Not individually: they go together in «Other», with keys, strings and the rest of the melodic instruments.
Can I use the stems in my own songs?
For practice, study or personal use, yes. To release them or use them commercially you need a license from the rights holders of the original song.
