A high-pass filter that removes the rumble of traffic, wind or HVAC. Between 80 and 100 Hz it clears it without touching the voice.
Electrical hum
Removes mains hum at 50 Hz (Europe) or 60 Hz (Americas) and its harmonics.
Tips for better results
- Voice mode uses a small neural network (RNNoise) trained on speech; general mode uses spectral reduction. It does not remove background conversations or every noise, and excessive strength can affect the voice.
- Most recordings sound good between 50 and 75% strength.
- If the voice sounds metallic, hollow or underwater, the strength is too high: lower it and process again.
- Remove noise before applying other effects such as EQ or volume boosts.
- One-off sounds like a door slam or a cough aren't background noise: cut them out with Audio Trimmer.
Frequently asked questions
Which noises can it remove?
Constant ones: fans, air conditioning, distant traffic, hiss, 50/60 Hz electrical hum and room ambience. It doesn't remove background conversations.
What about sudden noises?
A door slam, a cough or a single click isn't treated as background noise. The most effective fix is to cut that section or edit it by hand.
Which mode should I choose?
Voice when what's being said matters most; Music & general if there are instruments or sounds you want to keep. If in doubt, leave it on Auto.
Does the audio lose quality?
At moderate strength it's barely noticeable. Push it too far and artifacts can appear; use the before/after comparison to find the sweet spot.
Does the length of the recording change?
No. The clean file is exactly as long as the original, so you can swap it into your edit without anything drifting out of sync.
