Engines and licensesAbout 8D Audio
8D audio moves the sound in a circle between your left and right ear, with small phase differences and a touch of reverb, so your brain perceives it rotating around you. The preset works at 70% intensity with one rotation every 8 seconds, and you can set the intensity from 0 to 100% and each rotation from 2 to 30 seconds. You only notice it with headphones.
What you can do with it
- 01
Rediscover your songs
As each element moves through space, production details that go unnoticed in normal stereo come out.
- 02
Relax or focus
The slow, constant rotation is hypnotic: some people use it to meditate, study or simply switch off.
- 03
«Use headphones» videos
8D versions are a widely shared format: the warning to put headphones on sparks the viewer's curiosity.
- 04
Group listening
Make an 8D playlist, hand out headphones and watch people look around for where the sound is coming from.
How it works, in 3 steps
Upload your song
MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC and OGG are supported. Productions with clear vocals and well-separated layers give the best result.
Set intensity and rotation
The preset uses 70% and one rotation every 8 s. Lower the intensity for subtle movement and shorten the rotation for a faster spin.
Listen with headphones
Check the effect with headphones on, download it and, if you share it, tell people to wear headphones.
How 8D works
Circular panning
The sound travels continuously between the left and right channel along a circular path.
Differences between ears
Tiny timing and phase offsets imitate how a real sound reaches you from different directions.
A little space
A subtle reverb places the rotation in a room and makes the movement feel more natural.
Why you need headphones
With speakers, both ears hear both channels mixed in the air and the illusion is lost. Any headphones work; they don't have to be expensive.
Why it's called 8D
It's a marketing name: there are no eight dimensions. It's a binaural movement effect that sounds three-dimensional.
Tips for better results
- Listen with your eyes closed somewhere quiet: without visual input, the illusion is much stronger.
- 70% works with almost anything. At 100% the spin can feel dizzying and tiring.
- Avoid mono or heavily compressed recordings: the effect needs distinct elements to move around.
- Save it for special listens. All day long, it loses its charm and gets tiring.
Frequently asked questions
Do I really need headphones?
Yes. The effect depends on each ear receiving a different channel, and only headphones do that. On speakers, even surround ones, you'll hear normal stereo.
Why is it called 8D?
It's a marketing label: there aren't eight dimensions. The technique uses panning and binaural effects to create the feeling of three-dimensional sound moving around you.
What intensity should I choose?
50 to 70% for subtle movement, 70 to 85% for classic 8D and 90 to 100% for an extreme, almost disorienting spin.
Which music sounds best in 8D?
Pop, electronic, hip-hop and, in general, modern productions with clear vocals and well-separated instruments. Orchestral music works too, since it already spreads instruments across space.
Is it normal to feel a bit dizzy?
Yes, continuous movement disorients some people if they listen for a long time. It isn't harmful: lower the intensity, slow down the rotation or take a break.
